HEAL

The Acadiana Arts Council announces the creation of Project
HEAL to assist artists impacted by Hurricane Katrina.
Project HEAL (Helping Employ Artists Locally) offers
displaced artists employment opportunities in local communities.
Artists working in a wide range of disciplines including dance,
design arts, folklife, literature, media, music, theatre and
visual arts are now being recruited for programs designed
in partnership with local arts organizations and venues. Seamlessly
integrating artists impacted by Hurricane Katrina into existing
Acadiana Arts Council programs will quickly and directly assist
those artists in immediate need of financial assistance.
Tipitina's Foundation
http://www.tipitinas.com
The Tipitina's Foundation, in the wake of the devastation
caused by Hurricane Katrina, is committed to saving the culture
of New Orleans. The first step we are taking is to locate
all New Orleans artists and their families and then find housing
for those who need it. We are also
developing an ever-expanding database of people throughout
the country who are ready and willing to give our artists
a temporary home or other support.
MusiCares
http://www.grammy.com/musicares
Established in 1989 by The Recording Academy, MusiCares
provides a safety net of critical assistance for music people
in times of need. MusiCares and The National Recording Academy
have established the MusiCares Hurricane Relief Fund, a $1
Million dollar commitment of
charitable funds to be distributed to musicians and other
music industry people directly affected by this disaster.
The Jazz Foundation of America
http://www.jazzfoundation.org
Help New Orleans musicians now. The Jazz Foundation of
America has been named the Coordinator for the New Orleans
Musicians Clinic as well as other groups in the Gulf Area
who are helping the musicians in New Orleans.
NOAHLeans
http://www.noahleans.com
The NOAHLeans (New Orleans and Houston) mission is
to find employment for musicians from the stricken area and
to assist them and their families in relocation. Our incentive
is humanitarian and fraternal. We are musicians and these
are our brothers and sisters in music. But there is also a
great sense of historical perspective here. New Orleans is
the birthplace of Jazz, and these musicians, more than any
other have honored this heritage and continued the traditions
of the founders. As much to the music itself, we owe it to
them and to our musical forefathers to continue this legacy
and keep it alive for generations to come.
New Orleans Musician's Clinic
http://wwoz.org/clinic
The New Orleans Musicians' Clinic (NOMC) is an innovative
not-for-profit occupational medicine and wellness partnership
offering comprehensive health care to our community's most
precious resource: our musicians. Our sponsors are the Daughters
of Charity Services of New Orleans, The New Orleans Jazz and
Heritage Foundation, and the LSU Health Care Network. Dedicated
on May 2, 1998, NOMC became the first such health initiative
in the United States, addressing the health care needs of
musicians and their families, an under-served segment of the
population. To date our dedicated consortium of service providers
has treated more than 1000 local musicians.
The New Orleans Musician's Clinic has temporarily relocated
to Lafayette.
Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation
http://www.louisianahelp.org
The Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation has been
established in order to help provide immediate assistance
to our citizens in need through a network of Louisiana charities,
non-profit and governmental agencies, including clearinghouses
like the Louisiana VOAD (Volunteer Organizations Active in
Disaster). The Foundation is also designed to support long-term
family restoration and recovery by focusing on education,
housing, health care, legal assistance and jobs for Louisiana
families whose lives have been altered by Hurricane Katrina.
