ELVIS LIVES!
We remember Elvis Presley on what would have been the week of his 84th birthday. Exclusive interviews with bandmates DJ Fontana, Scotty Moore, producer Sam Phillips, and biographer Peter Guralnick focus on the social and cultural interactions unique to Memphis and the Deep South that sparked Elvis' musical explosiveness. The songwriting team of Leiber & Stoller talk about working with Elvis on their compositions "Hound Dog" and "Jailhouse Rock," and guitarist James Burton describes the Vegas years. Memphis R&B great Rufus Thomas describes the complex relationship many black musicians had to Elvis, and rockabilly queen Wanda Jackson says the king of rock 'n' roll was a perfect gentleman on their dates.
ROCK AND SOUL FROM MEMPHIS TO MUSCLE SHOALS: CANDI STATON, SAM PHILLIPS AND BARBARA SIMS
We road-trip to the fertile crescent of rock and soul with Barbara Sims, Sun Studios publicist and promoter, as she tells of her search for the next Elvis. We hightail it to North Alabama for a conversation on love, God and music with soul and disco siren Candi Staton. Then, we dig into the archives for classic interviews with Sun's founder Sam Phillips, Elvis' sidemen DJ Fontana and Scotty Moore and the Killer, Jerry Lee Lewis. Plus, we get tips from STAX soul man Rufus Thomas on how to cut a rug.
THE NEXT ELVIS: MYSTERIES OF ROCK AND SOUL
Classic interviews and music from Memphis' Sun Records late founder Sam Phillips, Elvis Presley sidemen DJ Fontana and Scotty Moore, and Jerry Lee Lewis on the mysteries of rock n roll royalty. Sun Records memoirist Barbara Sims is our palace guide. The late Rufus Thomas talks funky and fried chicken. Then it's on to a Muscle Shoals conversation with the downhome, soul siren Candi Staton.

In Memphis, the Stax Records Museum has opened last spring and we'll hear stories from artists on the label like Isaac Hayes, the Bar-Kays, the Memphis Horns, and Rufus Thomas. Then we'll head west and visit the massive Experience Music Project in Seattle with its high-tech focus on rock and roll. Finally, Peggy Bulger of the Library of Congress's American Folklife Center tells us about their Save the Sounds project - preserving 50 of the most important recordings ever made.
